Cookie Salad

As we dream about Dirt Turkey, many of us have been sharing recipes for regional specialties we've enjoyed for thanksgivings past. Luckily for all of us attending Dirt Turkey, we have at least one Minnesota Lutheran attending, whose mother recently gave him a copy of the church cookbook.

With that, I present: COOKIE SALAD. by Jon Vick. Mandarin oranges. Fudge stripe cookies. Cool Whip. I think it was called Stoner's Delight, but the church couldn't publish that in a cookbook.

Really, we're already planning this

Dirt Turkey 2012 is on the books. Many of us have already booked accommodations, but if you haven't have no fear, there are still lots of places to sleep in Moab. Wanna camp? No problem, follow this LINK. Interested in a little more private setting? Lots of hotels. And if you want to get in on the communal living action, gather your friends and book something already! Seriously, time's a wasting.

It's never too early to dream...

Planning for Dirt Turkey 2012 has already begun. You want in? Well you'd better tell someone in charge. If you don't know who's in charge it's because of the following:

1) You're in charge, and nobody told you.
2) You've got to do a little research.

Countdown to Dirt Turkey 2012 has begun.

You missed it

That's it folks, another Dirt Turkey in the bank. Everyone survived, except the Turkey, and we only made two visits to the Moab E.R. Thanks to Kathryn, Myla, Dave, Josh, JV, Jen, Tony, Zack, Wheelie and Lucy for such a great weekend. We rode new trails. Ate great food. Put back countless bottles of beer and whiskey. Stuffed 8 people in a hot tub not much bigger than a large mixing bowl. Jen got 73 stitches. Dave proved that you could ride in the morning, visit the hospital at lunch, and still get out and shred in the afternoon. The doctor told him to take it easy so he hit a trail called Dead Man's Ridge.

Lots of folks took photos, JV was the first to post his here. I stole the one above from him. You should look at them, it'll make you smile if you were there and regret not going if you weren't. And speaking of not being there, if you didn't make it this year fear not - Dirt Turkey will return in about 51 weeks. So mark your calendar, and start practicing breaking it to your mom that you've got better plans for Thanksgiving 2012. No excuse is an acceptable reason for missing this much fun.

Dirt Turkey - Lurking right around the corner

Yes folks, the Dirty Bird is right around the corner, lurking, waiting to fill your mouths with tryptophan and red clay. Couple of things to consider:

Bring food and beer. And maybe a pillow. But mostly feed and importantly, not 3.2% ABV beer. This can be purchased readily in most places outside of Utah.

Obviously it's gonna be chilly. Pack for riding in 30-50 degree riding weather. Gloves, tights, a sick flannel lumberjack shirt. And if you've got 2 pairs of mountain bike shoes, bring both. It sucks riding two days in a row in wet shoes. You get the picture.

Bike: you're going to be riding one. It's probably gonna break. The better you prepare for that, the less likely it's going to happen. Bring a tube, and you won't get a flat. Know how to fix your shit, and you likely won't have to.

The riding in the valley is going to be excellent. Higher elevations will likely be a little snowy. There are lots of trails that I haven't ridden in Moab that I would like to try. One suggestion from Zack is Pipedream. It's right in town and it looks fun for all ages.

The entertainment committee will decide on the off bike competitions on Monday. Mark your calendars and prepare for a trip to goodwill. I hope we get to use hot glue.

Le Chateau de Dinde

The Dirt Turkey castle has been booked! For those of you that have confirmed with me, you're in. For those of you still on the fence, you're on your own! But have no fear, as I've booked in an area where there are a lot of other rental units, so you don't have to sleep on a cactus.

On a related note, Andrea and Greg have bailed. Andrea said something about getting a hot tub at their house (I didn't really listen beyond her saying they're not coming). Didn't make a whole lotta sense to me, because we're going to have a hot tub in Moab, but then I remembered my last experience with Andrea and Greg in a hot tub, and it all made sense. Enjoy your lamb shanks.

Official Preferred Dinner Attire of Dirt Turkey

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ZUBAZ named as official dinner attire of Dirt Turkey 2011.

Lander, Wyoming. October 10, 2011. - The managing board of Dirt Turkey is happy to announce that they have made a unanimous decision to proclaim ZUBAZ the official dinner attire for the event.

"Based on a myriad of factors, including the stretchy elastic waistband and the stain disguising properties of the zebra stripe pattern, ZUBAZ just make sense." stated Tony Ferlisi, Dirt Turkey board member and pants wearing enthusiast. "I can't tell you how many unidentified stains I had on my legs after the last Dirt Turkey event. ZUBAZ offer much more protection than my 4in. inseam Patagonia shorts."

When asked to comment, recently confirmed Dirt Turkey attendee Jon Vick stated his approval in the board's decision. "I'm glad that I don't have to worry about which pants to pack for this trip." Vick Stated. "Now all I have to do is decide between my Gophers and Vikings ZUBAZ."
